Tough injury for Auburn

One thing that I failed to mention when ranting about North Carolina losing was the horrible injury that happened to Chuma Okeke.  It was ugly – on his drive to the basket, right before jumping for a layup, you can see his foot plant one way and his knee move in the other direction as he crumbled to the ground.  You could tell he hurt himself pretty bad – while you hope good things for the player when he goes for an MRI tomorrow, you have to figure that he will not be playing on Sunday – which is horribly sad.

Auburn’s coach Bruce Pearl stated it perfectly in his post-game interview.  Pearl said that Okeke was the best player on the court tonight (he was destroying the Tar Heels with 20 points and 11 rebounds before going down), and then choked up and could hardly finish his sentence that Okeke was definitely hurt.

I hate to see things like this happen.  I hope that the knee injury isn’t too serious – but it looked pretty bad.  It is sad to watch a player’s season end as the tournament eliminates team after team.  But it is even sadder to watch a player’s season end from an injury.  I hope that I am wrong, but it looks like Auburn will have to figure out how to beat Kentucky without one of their stars.
