  1. Go Buffalo Bulls! We are so happy to be in the big dance with a second SUNY school (Albany)…maybe one of the other schools in the family like SUNY Cornell will make it next year for three! Horns Up!

  2. Six teams still in it. And, I think, I’m still in it too. I don’t think I have ever gotten this far before. What a thrill. If Gonzaga can win twice more, and Kentucky can win twice more, I think I have a chance. With each game basically being a toss up, this is like a 1 chance in 16. Now, while I think, I generally know where the state of Kentucky is, I have no idea where this team from Kentucky actually plays at. And Gonzaga? I do not know where Gonzaga is. But Saint Gonzaga was one seriously good fellow what with helping the sick and all, so happy to be rooting (for now) for his namesake. I have zero understanding of the game, the geography, or what it must be like to be able to dunk a basketball into a hoop 10 feet in the sky. But when my 52% probability picks pan out (Wisconsin vs Arizona) I’ll take whatever credit I can garner. (Gonzaga vs. Duke I have as 55% probability for the Zags.)

  3. Hmmm, it has just occurred to me that I am currently being beat by, what I am told, is an 8 year-old. Well, I guess I could realize that I am sort of emoting at an 8 year-old level. But given this particular 8 year-old’s pedigree, I think I (all of us) are sort of up against the Bobby Fisher 8 year-old grand master of March Madness. So, I find it an great honor to be helping his young jedi knight continue to hone his most formidable skills. Already well developed, and no doubt, the full richness is still latent. Go C.H. Go.

  4. Oh. And I just noted…Mrs Crazed is totally dominating for one of the coveted prizes. Go Mrs. C. Go. And her protégé, Lady Liz and her Ponies, seems to be taking after her mentor’s abilities. Won’t be long before Mrs. C. has some serious competition. The Hodgson’s totally rock.

  5. Oh, how I hope for a Kentucky-Duke final. And can you imagine sitting on Monday in the Hodgson’s living room, with the master and his young protege head-to-head. Now, that is a sunrise-sunset moment.

Congratulations to CH and CL. You guys are an amazing father-son pairing.

    • Thanks for all the good wishes, Bill!!!!! It has been an amazing tournament – both with my crazy picks doing well, and Charlie’s amazing ability to pick the chalk to get to the top. Charlie was sad that Kentucky didn’t make it, but he had such a fun time watching the games that weren’t on after his bedtime.

  6. Tom (and family, as clearly this is an all-Hodgson investment),

THANK YOU!!!! Still again. You put on such a great multi week party for hundreds of us. I had a poor showing this year. Sheeses, that maximum of that likelihood function is simply so broad–so many tournament outcomes are, basically, equally likely. So long as you have any of a million possible tournaments you are basically as likely win as any other. Ahh, the pain of being a statistician. (Someone should write a book on that. Or, maybe better, a good blues song.). I guess, though, that is life. Routine. Now and then a moment of joy. And here and there, pain. The pain, if not too often, enables one to enjoy the joy even more. Tom (et. al.), thank you, every year, for giving me the reservoir, so that when joy does come, it will be oh so very very much enjoyed. Another wonderful season of renewal has come and gone. -Bill
