Even though i am only 2.5 years old, I know that the way to pick games is by the mascot….this is why I am amoung the contenders in the upset pool…even with my love of angry birds making me select both Louisville and Temple. Logan ‘logabear’ Horgan

Worst bracket ever!
Worst bracket picker ever: all 4 of my final four teams knocked out before even the Sweet 16, and they were all legitimate picks. I award myself no points.

2nd Round is Complete
Well, fortunately, the late games weren’t very close. Sadly wasn’t in the mood to watch. Fortunately I have a short memory – not to mention as a Cubs fan, I am used to disappointment.
Since it is late, I will just go to the standings. Brent Peterson has dominated the first two rounds – leading both pools. He’s followed by Jennifer Miller, Stephanie Palermo, Steve Glass and Don Jr by 20 and Austin McElroy and Tanmay Gautam by 30.
In the upset pool, Austin McElroy trails Brent by 3, Jennifer Miller by 9, Deborah Waite by 11, and Logan Horgan by 12.
A couple of 2nd round notes:
After 2 rounds, there are only 4 of the 18 Big East and Big 10 schools left (2 from each conference) -Connecticut,Marquette,OhioSt, andWisconsin.
The Southwest bracket has totally broken down, with #12Richmond, #11 VCU and#10 Florida Ststill hanging around. That guarantees that we will have a double digit seed make the Elite 8 – pretty fun stuff.
The regular season and conference champions are rising to the top quicker than normal. It almost always happens – but this year of the 16 teams left, only 4 (Marquette, VCU,Florida St, andWisconsin) did not win either the regular season or conference tournament. Pretty impressive.

Very very sad
Normally always happy to see another 11 seed – especially a mid-major such as VCU – make the Sweet 16. But watching my Boilermakers totally explode upon themselves was just maddening. They totally let VCU play the type of game that they wanted – and it seemed like the Boilers totally forgot to play defense. It seemed that whatever shot that the Rams wanted – whether it be a lay-up or a three pointer – they could get a wide-open shot at will. Just not a custom to watching them not play with any defensive intensity.
Very happy for the Rams. And it is a tremendous day for the city ofRichmondto have both VCU andRichmondin the Sweet 16. But still not a good day for the Lunatic.

Charlie and Katie explain their picks!!!
That’s right! The ever popular (or at least to entertaining to me) articles written by Charlie and Katie to explain their picks are now available in the links (under Lunatic ramblings). Figured that considering that Katie’s logic is sadly (or amazingly) in a tie for 12th place at 370 points that it was probably time to explain her choices. Maybe I should be taking some lessons from my 1 1/2 year old on picking basketball games.

What a wild day!!!!!
A double digit seed makes it to the Sweet 16 inRichmond,Butlerlooks like it wins the game and then loses the game on a stupid foul and then wins the game on a stupid foul, and thenSan Diego St and Temple battle through two overtimes.
In the important part (at least to all of us), Brent Peterson has now take the lead in both standings (410 – standard, 198 – upset). He is currently just a force!!!! In the standard pool, Jennifer Miller, John Franklin, Stephanie Palermo and Steve Glass are just 20 points behind. And in the upset pool, John Franklin trails by 14, and Austin McElroy, Deborah Waite, Kevin Flippen and Ruoyu Fan are just 15 points behind.
Hopefully, tomorrow’s games will be just as good as today’s were. And that everyone continues to Stomp the Lunatic!!!!!!

Things are right in the world….
I’m beating the Lunatic and my wife. You may resume what you are doing. Go Purdue.

That was just unreal!!!!!!!!!!!!
That was one of the strangest endings I have ever seen!Butlercomes up with a great play to get a layup with 2.2 seconds to take a one point lead. Then, on a play where both players were sprinting for a pass, they call a foul on Pitt. I wasn’t sure how you call a foul in that situation – and yet, in the replay, you can see that the contact pushed the Pitt player to the side. Then, Pitt misses the second FT, Matt Howard gets the rebound, and in an attempt to heave the ball towards his basket, gets hit across the arms by a Pitt player. I am also not sure how you call a foul in that situation – yet, he clearly reached in. At least the refs were consistent.
Needless to say, Howard hits the first FT, intentionally misses the second so that the last 0.8 seconds can tick off – andButlerhas destroyed another perfectly good bracket. For the second year in a row, the Horizon conference champions have knocked off a #1 seed from the mighty Big East. I don’t even know if you can callButlera Cinderella at this point. All I know is I would not want to be Wisconsin or Kansas State – knowing that the mighty Butler Bulldogs are waiting for them in the Sweet 16. They have now won both games in the final second – and after last year’s flurtation with history, this year’s team seems intent on sticking around for a while and seeing if they can finish what escaped them last year.
I don’t even care that it totally took out my insane bracket – where I think I had Pitt going to the championship, since I thought it was too crazy to have Purdue do it. GoButlerBulldogs!!!!!! Keep fighting for the little guys!!!!!!!!

We have our first double digit seed
OK – so it was guaranteed. But Richmond officially becomes the first candidate to be Cinderella. They dominatedMoreheadStateto make their way to the Sweet 16. The other games have been very entertaining – especially theSan Diego St/Templedouble overtime game. And of course,Butleris givingPittsburgheverything they can handle. Looking forward to watching the end of that game.
Of course, Brent Peterson is unstoppable – he has continued his amazing streak by getting the first four games of today correct.
